Harvest Hope Food Bank calls on public to take one small action and join together to end hunger

August 27, 2024

September is Hunger Action Month and Feeding America is encouraging one million actions across the country to end hunger. During the month-long campaign, Harvest Hope Food Bank will be raising awareness and inspiring action in South Carolina and spreading the word online.

“We can end hunger in the U.S. when we decide to work together with coordinated action and a shared belief that everyone deserves fresh, nutritious food,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “This year during Hunger Action Month, we are encouraging everyone to take action. Raise your voice. Volunteer. Donate. Our individual actions may seem small, but together they become a powerful movement that can change history.”

The USDA estimates 1 in 7 people and 1 in 5 children experienced food insecurity in 2022. Of the communities Harvest Hope Food Bank serves, we see food insecurity range from a low of 11.5% in Greenville County to a high of 18.5% in Marlboro County.

People can get involved locally through the actions below:

  • Volunteer your time at Harvest Hope Food Bank, or a local food pantry
  • Host a food drive, or donate food
  • Donate to Harvest Hope Food Bank. Even $1 can make a difference!
  • Spread awareness on social media using #HungerActionMonth and #HarvestHopeFoodBank

“In the fight against hunger, every action counts. Even the smallest step – a donation, a volunteer hour, or sharing a post – can create a ripple effect that impacts countless lives,” said Erinn Rowe, CEO of Harvest Hope Food Bank. “As the number of children facing food insecurity in our community continues to rise, your support is more vital than ever. Together, we can make a real difference and ensure that every child has access to the nourishment they need to thrive.”
