September 25, 2023
Harvest Hope Food Bank announced it received a $175,000 donation from Publix Super Markets Charities to purchase mobile food pantries. In addition, Publix will be donating 40,000 pounds of produce to fill the mobile food pantries for one year. Harvest Hope serves over 20 million meals to neighbors experiencing food insecurity in 20 counties across South Carolina.
Publix Super Market President, Kevin Murphy, made a special visit to Harvest Hope Food Bank Thursday, September 21 to volunteer alongside our over 70 associates from surrounding stores in the Midlands. They worked to distribute food and produce donated from Publix from the Harvest Hope mobile food pantry to clients at Harvest Hope Food Bank during Publix Serves this week!
“We’re incredibly thankful for this donation provided by our friends at Publix Super Markets,” said Erinn Rowe, Harvest Hope CEO. “Publix realizes how important it is that those in rural areas of South Carolina have access to the food they need to thrive, and their support and partnership is greatly appreciated.”
As a food retailer, Publix believes their greatest opportunity to give back is in helping to alleviate hunger. Throughout the week of September 18 – 22, nearly 7,500 Publix associates across seven states volunteered with 150 food banks, pantries and other nonprofit organizations focused on hunger relief for Hunger Action Month.
“Helping provide food to our neighbors in need is at the heart of our philanthropic efforts at Publix,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones. “We’re thankful to Publix Super Markets Charities for their continued support of hunger alleviation efforts in the areas we serve. Their support and our work with food banks throughout the Southeast provide nourishment and better the lives of families and individuals in our communities. We’re proud to do good, together.”
The $175,000 donation from Publix Super Markets Charities to Harvest Hope is one of several donations made this year to help provide food and other essential support to people facing hunger. In all, Publix Super Markets Charities has donated $10 million to Feeding America partner food banks and other nonprofit partners in 2023.
